Rosa Straw: Founding Director.
Rosa is a curator and innovator who started her career at Brighton Museum & Art Gallery completing a one year curator training placement hosted by the museum in partnership with Job Centre Plus. She has studied at the University of Sussex and University of Derby and has a first class degree in History with Sociology.
In addition to Culture Train she has served on a resident regeneration board alongside staff, police, service providors, and representatives from central government; worked for Brighton Museums & Art Gallery; and the National Justice Museum. She has created and delivered courses for the Worker’s Education Association in Nottingham and Chesterfield, delivered talks on her research on women’s activism at Quad Cinema and the D H Lawrence Festival of Culture, and has appeared with Tony Robinson on the Channel 4 programme ‘Ancient Tracks’ exploring the myth and magic surrounding one of Derbyshire’s oldest stone carvings ‘T’owd Man’.
Rosa is passionate about arts and museums and inclusion and diversity and in 2018 she secured a place on the Museums Association programme ‘Transformers Influence’: a professional development initiative for people working to create radical change in museums.
James Light: Director.
James is a researcher, writer and business owner who hails from Sheffield. Rosa and James met when they completed an Access Course in Higher Education at Chesterfield College in 1999 and James has remained passionate about adult education and learning. He loves history and literature and has a first class degree in history from the University of Sheffield and a first class degree in literature from the Open University.
